The largest natural freshwater lakes in France: Lac de Lacanau or Lac de Carcans-Hourtin. You will be spoilt for choice for a relaxing time by the water.

You can visit the two largest freshwater lakes in France. What's more, the Lacanau lake is less than 30 minutes from the Aux Couleurs du Ferret campsite!

Come and discover these unspoilt areas, bordered by sand dunes and forest, on foot or by bike. Linked by the Canal des Etangs, these magical mirrors are a paradise for water sports. There is no shortage of choice: in Bombannes, Piqueyrot or Moutchic, sports and leisure activities are in the limelight.

The colours of the lakes contrast with those of the Atlantic coast. In the morning, sheltered from the prevailing winds, or at the end of the day for the sunset, there are only good reasons to take advantage of these lagoon-like stretches of crystal clear water.

The Lac de Lacanau lake at 20km from the campsite

With its 2000 hectares, the lake of Lacanau allows to practice a maximum of nautical activities and to propose small beaches full of charm.

  • Le Moutchic
    This is the most animated spot with its numerous "beach huts". You can try stand up paddle, canoe, windsurf, catamaran, wakeboard and kitesurf! The freedom of the great outdoors is yours on your pedal boat or motor boat (with or without a licence). So, fishing parties or moments of total disconnection!
  • The supervised beaches
    You will find 2 supervised beaches on the lake of Lacanau: at Moutchic and at Longarisse.

You arrive on the largest freshwater lake in France with its 6000 hectares (nearly 1100 football fields!).

This lake has 8 supervised beaches. Generally speaking, the eastern part is a Natura 2000 zone and on the western side, you will discover the pretty village of Piqueyrot in Hourtin and the famous Bombannes domain, a real oasis of nature in Carcans Maubuisson.

  • Carcans-Maubuisson
    This pretty lakeside resort is ideal for families! The water is calm and turquoise blue, there are many activities for children and everything is accessible by bike. Sailing, canoeing, stand up paddling and pedal boats are all available. As this is a well-known windsurfing spot, there is an XXL-size playground for the initiated!
  • The Bombannes domain
    A few pedal strokes from the centre of Carcans Maubuisson, you arrive in the Bombannes domain, managed by the ONF. Here you can take advantage of the various leisure facilities: tennis courts, an interpretation trail, a climbing wall, cycling, water-skiing, sailing, stand up paddle, acquaparc, pedal boats, canoeing... there is something for all the family! You can even sleep on site.
     

This itinerary also allows you to discover the Médoc and its great wines..

As our campsite is a family-run, intimate establishment, with the emphasis on calm and relaxation, we are unable to accept groups.
